Generic Evista (Raloxifene) 60mg belongs to a group of medications called selective estrogen receptor modulators. It works by acting like estrogen in some parts of the body. Evista is used to prevent and treat bone loss (osteoporosis) in women after menopause. Maintaining strong bones by slowing bone loss helps to reduce the risk of fractures. Raloxifene may also lower the chance of getting a certain type of breast cancer (invasive) in women after menopause. This medicine is a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM). It works in osteoporosis by decreasing bone breakdown and thinning that may occur in women after menopause. It works to decrease the risk of invasive breast cancer by blocking estrogen in breast and uterine tissue.
The recommended adult dose is 60 mg daily at the same time each day, with or without food. If you are taking Evista for osteoporosis treatment or prevention, it is important that you get enough calcium and vitamin D.
